Ms. Izabella Dobrowolska , IBMBA Alumni (Class of 2017)
IBMBA Alumni Interview Series_Izabella Dobrowolska: job interview experience sharing (Class of 2017)
A meeting with Izabella Dobrovolska, a 2019 NSYSU graduate, took place in Taipei. She kindly agreed to give an interview and was very grateful to the university for this opportunity. The conversation with Isabella began with a description of her time immediately after graduation. She recalls that at that moment it was important for her to return home for a while. This helped her to form a further vision of her future life in terms of professional growth, since even at that moment Isabella was planning to return to Taiwan and work here.
The road that led her to the National Sun-Yet Sen University and the IBMBA program starts in Poland. After receiving a bachelor's degree, which focused on English and Chinese, it was important for Izabella to retain her knowledge of languages, but at the same time to change her direction a little. Thus, she received Taiwan Scholarship for Master Degree that “literally changed her life”. When choosing a university, Izabella was guided by one of the most important criteria: the university’s accreditation, which, in her opinion, meant the prestige of the university and recognition all over the world. Since it was her first time in Asia, she had an open mind and did not know what to expect from the education in Taiwan. Nevertheless, Izabella was surprised at how versatile the lectures were and the teaching staff was highly qualified.
Izabella has now moved to Taipei and is looking for work. She says that during the studying she managed to take two internships, which later brought her the necessary experience and knowledge about the future profession. The first internship took place at the Kaohsiung City Government in International Affairs Department. It formed Izabella's understanding of the labor market as a whole, as well as market research. The second internship was at HAMASTAR Technology Co., Ltd. as trainee in R&DT. Her responsibilities included testing and improving the UE and UI (User Experience and User Interface) of platform that was developed by the company. In addition, Izabella translated some technical documents from Chinese into English, which helped her maintain her language skills. Thus, while searching for work for the past month, Isabella admits that this process is quite exhausting, but she is also sure that thanks to those internships, she would not have received as many job offers as she has now. Now the graduate’s aims to find work in Service companies in the position of the Project Manager, which, in her opinion, is easier to find in the capital than in Kaohsiung, as large companies are interested in international growth and development.
During the interview, we could not miss the chance to mention the time when Izabella was Vice President of Student Association. She smiled and said that it was an unforgettable experience in her life and she deeply hopes that future students will have the opportunity to become part of SA.
The main advice that Izabella could give after going this way is not to miss the opportunity to take at least one internship during the studying. It is impossible to overestimate how useful this unique experience will be in further job searching process. Finally, to be open to everything new that life offers and not be afraid to leave your comfort zone.
