The IBMBA student gets the summer internship opportunity of Hotai Group with only a 1% acceptance rate in Taiwan!

Uley Lin, the IBMBA student of NSYSU is honored to be admitted to the Hotai Group Summer Internship, a program that drew over 1,300 applications in 2023 and accepted only 16, with an acceptance rate of only 1%. In addition to training courses and case competitions, one-on-one mentor guidance, interns will also get feedback from senior executives.
This summer may be a transition period for other recent graduate interns to transition to the workplace or graduate school; for Uley, it is a precious 60 days, and it is also a good opportunity to relive the atmosphere of the workplace before studying abroad. She initiated her internship hunt as early as April and, after interviewing with IBM, Nissan, and Hotai, was deeply influenced by Hotai's commitment to continuous improvement and employee respect. Hotai's flexibility, offering online interviews during exams, stood out and reinforced her decision to join them.
She works in the Management Planning Department - Strategic Research and Investment. While many wonder about the department's role, it is pivotal in Hotai's vast enterprise. This department monitors industry trends and identifies future business ventures. For example, the preparation matters before Hotai's investment in a new business are the responsibility of the investment department! (Ex: Taiwan Institute of Technology and Research Electric Vehicle Control Module Design Company Investment Project, the year 2022) Uley's internship consisted of three main phases: analyzing current industry trends, managing executive-assigned topics, and participating in intern evaluations. This journey enriched her expertise, granting insights into investment feasibility, profitability, and risk assessments based on global scenarios.
The department's unique nature demands strict confidentiality, and reports must be carefully assisted by the assistant manager and the mentor. The supervisor colleagues are very willing to provide advice and help to the project. The spirit of continuous improvement is also reflected in the writing of reports, back and forth to revise 4-5 versions, even more than 10 versions are possible to happen! How to efficiently communicate with the supervisor and hold a growth mindset to do each report better, are the valuable experiences of this internship!
Before the end of the internship, adhering to the corporate spirit of "no best, only better", Uley won the "Best Presentation Award" and "Team Competition Champion" in the personal mid-term evaluation and the team competition respectively!
Post-internship, Uley appreciates Hotai's disciplined work ethic and its embodiment of the TOYOTA WAY, blending it seamlessly with Taiwan's innovative thinking. This approach makes Hotai a true counterpart to the TSMC in the vehicle industry. Compared with her experience in new start-ups, the delicate and institutionalized division of labor of Hotai is also the key reason why Hotai has been the leader of Taiwan's automotive industry for many years.
During the internship, in addition to the work side, the interpersonal aspect was also very rewarding. In the past two months, Uley has been participating in the aerobic exercise club and board game club, offering an interesting glimpse into her colleagues' lives outside work.
At the end of the internship, Uley will continue to move forward to the next station with gratitude and reluctance, as well as the advice given by each supervisor colleague!
我:「媽!我今年暑假都不會在家喔!」
媽:「又要去哪裡?!」
我:「這次要去和泰集團!全台市佔率第一的汽車總代理商!」
媽:「要去賣『汽車』嗎?!」
(不瞞大家說,向家人解釋實習內容前,她的回答與多數身邊朋友一模一樣)
我是國立中山大學管理學院國際經營管理碩士學程學生林佑諭!這是我在出發台北前兩週與家人的對話。有幸錄取和泰集團暑期實習,此計畫於2023年吸引超過1300封履歷投遞,經書審及面試後最終錄取16 名人選,錄取率僅1%。由於實習計畫內容精實且豐富,因此吸引眾多學子踴躍爭取!不僅安排企業參訪、指派Mentor 一對一親自指導,可實際參與公司業務,更安排獨家豐田管理實務等訓練課程及個案競賽,從提案、企劃到呈報的過程,都會獲得高階主管的回饋。
選擇和泰原因不僅是認同其企業文化,最讓我印象深刻的是,和泰面對當時仍是學生的我們,於考試週提供貼心的線上彈性面試;相較於各大企業偶有特定日期面試、或要求固定地點實體面談等,光是減少面試者舟車勞頓,即再次驗證和泰尊重員工的文化,也更加深我來實習的心意。
經營企劃部-策略研究及投資室是我實習的處室,不少人首次看到這單位名稱可能會想說 :「這部門是做什麼的?」。和泰集團非常龐大,旗下有各種關係企業,需要一單位持續研究產業,發掘未來潛在商機。舉例和泰投資新事業前的準備事項就是由策投室負責的!(ex:’22年台灣工研院電動車控制模組設計公司投資案)
實習期間,我的工作分為三階段:首先協助現行專案分析產業趨勢;接著指定題目撰寫本部長評鑑;最後實習生團體評鑑則由各組決定主題並上台分享。過程中不僅加深專業知識,也透過呈報產業動向與國際實例運作等,協助管理層了解投資可行性及獲利空間,及評估未來風險與挑戰。
由於部門特殊性,資料多屬機密,必須謹慎的透過副理與Mentor協助完成前兩份報告。執行專案過程中最常遇到邏輯性問題,感謝主管同仁都非常願意提供建議與幫助,持續改善的精神也體現在撰寫報告中,來回不停修改4-5版,甚至10版以上都是有機會的喔!也因此如何有效率的與主管溝通報告方向(比如溝通前先準備好前段資料收集並雙重確認),以及抱持積極成長心態,將每次報告做的更好,都是這兩個月寶貴的經驗!
實習結束前,秉持和泰「沒有最好,只有更好」的企業精神,我在個人期中評鑑與團體競賽中分別榮獲「最佳簡報獎」及「團體競賽冠軍」!與各校人才切磋過程中,更發現自我優勢、努力於同儕間互相學習領導合作能力,是一場令人難以忘懷的實習旅程!
實習兩個月後,不僅可深刻感受和泰嚴謹的工作態度,更熟悉TOYOTA WAY如何完整體現在集團經營方針;特別是,和泰融合台灣創新靈活的思考模式,讓「車界台積電」的稱號名不虛傳!與我過去所任職的新創公司經驗相比,和泰細膩且制度化的分工,也是我認為和泰能夠長年位居台灣車界龍頭的關鍵原因。
實習期間除了工作面,人際面也頗有收穫。這兩個月每週一至週四下班後持續參加有氧運動社、及桌遊社,把握時間主動結識各年齡層同事,看見大家不同於工作的樣貌也很有趣!維持良好的人際關係不僅上班心情更正面,也透過同事們分享,進一步了解部門間運作!
實習來到尾聲,我將帶著感謝與不捨的心,及每位主管同仁給予過的建議,持續朝下一站前進!很幸運2023年暑假,我與和泰有過共同成長的回憶!
