Akshit Mehta, the Indian student who clinched the 2023 Taiwan Scholarship's Outstanding Graduate Student Award, Shares Insightful Experiences.

Akshit Mehta, the brilliant Indian student who triumphed in the 2023 Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program, opens up about his transformative journey in Taiwan. Studying International Business Management at the esteemed National Sun Yat-Sen University, he has shown exceptional linguistic prowess and has been actively engaged in promoting cultural exchange between Taiwan and India.
Akshit’s education was enriched by the inspiring environment of National Sun Yat-Sen University, surrounded by captivating scenery and high-quality education. He says, “The university's diverse academic and research opportunities have significantly broadened my practical experience in my chosen field, enriching my knowledge and enhancing my skill set.”
The Indian student praised the supportive role of the Ministry of Education and the Taiwan government in his academic journey. Their assistance, along with the Education Division for Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, has been crucial to his successful journey. “The support from these institutions, including a generous 20,000 NTD monthly stipend and tuition coverage, greatly facilitated my research studies.” Akshit adds.
Embracing local traditions and participating in Taiwanese festivals such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year, and Dragon Boat Festival, Akshit found a home away from home in Taiwan. His gastronomic adventures, particularly relishing the iconic xiaolongbao from Din Tai Fung, oyster omelet, dumplings, and bubble milk tea, have deepened his connection with Taiwanese culture.
When asked about the role his family, professors, advisors, and mentors played in his success, Akshit expresses profound gratitude. “The unrelenting support from friends and family, combined with the kindness and guidance from professors and advisors, helped me overcome linguistic and cultural barriers. They made it possible to turn the challenge of homesickness into an opportunity for personal growth.”
Akshit's immersion in Taiwanese culture and the friendships he formed have greatly broadened his perspective. Studying in the IBMBA program, he gained insights into global living habits and economic contexts, expanding his knowledge beyond academia. He notes, “What is unique about the experience is that I've made lifelong friends.”
In his future endeavors, Akshit is determined to leverage his skills and knowledge to foster a closer relationship between Taiwan and India. He is focused on bridging the gap between the two nations from a policy perspective. By utilizing his expertise in International Business Management, he aims to boost business and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
