Mr. Antoine Sylvestre, IBMBA Alumni (Class of 2014)

Antoine is an IBMBA graduate from France. In 2014, he is currently an sales manager at TGD Consolidations. At first, he came to Taiwan to learn Chinese and then study at the IBMBA program at the National Sun Yat-sen University. The consideration of getting enrolled in NSYSU is mainly because of the school reputation he heard while studying Chinese. Moreover, Kaohsiung is a perfect place for students since the living cost is relatively reasonable than Taipei. After doing more research, he found that the college of management in NSYSU is one of the top schools in Taiwan and known as a talent incubator that provides a balance between academic and practical in the business world. The professors are great scholars, also the whole program is English teaching.

Comparing NSYSU with his previous schools in France, NSYSU offers a more theoretical teaching method which students can apply on the work in the future. For his first job after graduated from IBMBA was doing repetitive cold-calls every single day in a logistics company in Taiwan. However hard work never betrays, one of the cold calls eventually led him to a French company that appreciates his work ethic and finally offer a position for him.

An advice for international students who want to work in Taiwan: First thing first, learn Chinese. Even though you are willing to work in English, there is a lot of time Chinese will be useful to make you stand out among other candidates or to communicate with your co-workers. Second, the first job is always not your dream job. But remember that that job is your stepping stone to the next one. Lastly, smaller companies would more likely give you more experiences and more rooms to learn. Therefore start small!
