IBMBA 99 Miki

1. Please briefly tell us your education and working background.

Miki finished her bachelor degree in the U.S. She was interested in dolphin training at first but for some reason she took her dog to a dog trainer training class in 2007. After that, she found that she was interested in becoming a dog trainer.  She believes that by training a dog well, the relationship between the dog and its master would improve. In this way, people will not throw their dogs away easily.

In 2010, Miki joined the IBMBA; by studying in the IBMBA program she learned not only business, but also used dog training in her graduate thesis. Miki is the founder of Corgi alliance in southern Taiwan. The organization is a platform for all people who raise Corgis.

2. When did you have the idea of setting up Mila dog training academy?

In March, 2013, Miki started to plan the opening of the dog training classes.
She thinks that a well-trained dog will be liked by people, in this way; there will be fewer stray dogs on the street.

3. Would you please introduce Mila dog training academy? Ex: The main services…

Currently Mila has three main courses for dogs, and the courses are divided into three parts.
Beginner—Basic behavior, diet, and how to take care of your dogs
Intermediate--- Training dogs’ stability and making them follow their masters’ orders
Advance---More stability training
Besides the above normal courses, Mila also offers special tricks and talent courses for dogs.
“Perfect dog course”—making your dog become a perfect dog is a course that lasts for six days.

4. Would you tell us the biggest difficulties you have encountered so far?

My parents were strongly against the idea of me having my own dog training business; they just could not understand why I would want to do this.
As time goes by, I try to make them understand that dog training is not only a job, but a business that could help make the environment better. They have gradually accepted my ideas.

5. Is there any official dog trainer license test in Taiwan?

Unfortunately there is no dog trainer license test in Taiwan but there is a Taiwan Animal Behavior Research Center (TABRC), which you may find a lot of information about dog training. There is another certificate called KCAI, it is a certificate based in England.

6. Do you have anything want to say to the people?

Although the dog training is not well-known in Taiwan so far, I believe that I am doing something meaningful for myself, and the society. I will keep letting people know the idea of dog training and how important it is for the people who own dogs. Also, I would like to emphasize that joining dog training courses with your dog can help improve the relationship between you and the dog. I hope everyone enjoys the training process, and has a good relationship with their lovely dogs!  (By Helen)
