江德曼是IBMBA學程的第二屆畢業生,同時他也是IB學程裡面的第一位非裔學生。他的中文非常的流利,不少人只聽他說話,沒有看到他的人,還以為是聽到一個台灣人在說話,不只是中文流利,他也能夠講台語。從七年前來到中山後,喜歡上這裡的環境,於是IB畢業後,他又留在學校的亞太所裡攻讀博士,他將於今年的六月份畢業,趁著學長畢業前,小編抓緊時間趕緊來訪問這位優秀的學長。

【By Lena Liang】>Thiombiano Dramane Germain enrolled in this program in 2008, and graduated in 2010. He is the first African student in this program, and can not only speak Chinese fluently without an accent, but can also speak Minnan (Hokkien-Taiwanese)! Moreover, because he enjoyed the environment at NSYSU, he decided to apply for the PhD program in Asia-Pacific Studies after he graduated from the IB program. Now, he is going to get his PhD this June. I was very fortunate to get the opportunity to interview him before his graduation.

1.可以談談你為什麼想要申請IBMBA的學程嗎?
Why did you apply for the IB program?

我申請這個學程是因為我想增加在管理方面的知識和拓展管理領域的視野。這個學程提供了基礎的理論課程也同時結合了實務,對我來說,是很理想的商業課程。

I applied for this program because I wanted to broaden my knowledge and perspective in the area of management. The IBMBA program, which offered theoretical and practical knowledge, was the ideal program for me.

2.那麼又是甚麼樣的動機讓你畢業後,申請了亞太所的博士班?
What was your motivation to apply for an Asian Pacific & China Studies PhD?

在我完成碩士學位後,我想要更了解東南亞最火紅的政經議題(實際上多是因為中國的崛起而帶來的影響)。此外,在非洲這方面的議題還不是非常的普遍。因此,我畢業後希望能夠介紹這方面知識給非洲的大學(特別是西非的大學)。

After completing my master degree, I wanted to know more about Southeast Asia, which is currently the hottest region in terms of political and economic issues (mainly due to the rise of China).  In addition, this field of research is not common in Africa. Therefore, after graduation I hope to introduce this area of study to African Universities (specifically West-African Universities)

3.你在IBMBA和亞太所中學到甚麼?

What is the main takeaway from studying both IBMBA and Asia Pacific & China Studies?

從IBMBA裡面,我學到怎麼在中國做生意以及在漢文化中,關係的重要性。
至於亞太所,我則是學到了「兩岸關係」。中國與鄰國之間的互動關係。而中國與東南亞鄰國之間存在的似乎是霸權關係。此外，中國以成長中的經濟強權試圖強加其觀點到亞洲發展中國家。尤其是在涉及到對台灣的承認問題。如今，隨著中國的發展，中國以強權控制鄰國的形象如同美國對待拉丁美洲鄰國的霸權行徑。

From the IBMBA program, I learned about doing business in China and the importance of the concept of "guan-xi" in the Han culture.
From Asia-Pacific Studies, I learned about “cross-strait relations”, such as the interactions between China and its neighbors and the hegemonic relations that seem to exist between China and its Southeast Asian neighbors.  Due to China having increasing economical power, it attempts to impose its views on developing Asian countries. This is especially apparent in issues related to the recognition of Taiwan. Nowadays, as China is growing, it will impose itself to its neighbors similar to the United States’ hegemonic behavior towards its Latin American neighbors.

4.請問你完成博士學位後的未來計畫是甚麼?
What are your future plans after you receive your PhD degree?

完成博士後,我打算當顧問。可以做為亞洲商業對非洲投資的中間橋梁。我也想回到我的國家,在大學裡面當老師。

After receiving my PhD, I plan to be a consultant and a bridge between Asian businesses interested in investing in Africa.  Also, as previously mentioned, I would like to one day teach in African Universities.
