Guest Lecture - The Success and Failure Story of Lung Soon Ocean Group

 

It is an honour to have Mr. Wang be our guest speaker again in the seminar in business management course hosted by IBMBA. This time, he is going to share the success and failure story of Lung Soon Ocean Group with over 50 students in the classroom. Since last year is not a stable year, the environmental changes related to geographical political issues influence so much to the market. Mr. Wang will give a deep analysis of the different environmental effects to the Lung Soon Ocean Group. Lung Soon Ocean Group is a world leader in harvesting, processing, preparation and supply of quality tuna and seafood. From the ocean to the plate, Lung Soon Ocean Group has established a global fishing, sourcing, selling, marketing and distribution network to bring quality tuna and seafood to consumers worldwide. It is a great opportunity for students to learn more about international business and marketing strategy. 

Mr. Wang use a different way to run the sharing. Instead of PowerPoint slides, he uses social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube. The new sharing way increases students’ interest, and also shows the transparency of  Lung Soon Ocean Group. Mr. Wang has an interesting background, he is born in Taiwan but rise in different parts of the world. His past experience equipt him with an international view of the company and different issues. Helps Lung Soon from a local fishing company to Lung Soon Ocean Group which has business all over the world. 

By looking at the failure story, it mainly occurs with the regulation. The agent and regulations differences of different countries are indicated. Due to Taiwan’s unique stand in the world, Lung Soon Ocean Group is not protected by the united organization. Mr. Wang must cooperate with a local company in a different country, in order to make the business international. But the unique situation also provides a chance for Mr. Wang to learn about different countries' couture.

During the sharing, students are encouraged to ask everything they would like to. Students are asking different questions to have some advice or feedback from Mr. Wang, from management strategy to life. Here are some questions asked by students:

  1. How to switch from different cultures?

    • Yes, there are barriers in different cultures. Most important is your personality and willingness to work with different countries. Although within the same culture, people will still be different. Caring for others and remembering their practice matters.

  2. The organizational structure and competitive advantage

    • There is a lot of business and company in the Lung Soon Ocean Group, we run the business on a company basis. Every company has its own teams and structure. The job for me is to keep them on track and make sure the business is making money. To stay in the competition, peoples are important. We are very lucky that we can help suitable people in all the positions. 

  3. How do you select and process international talent?

    • Look close, like recruiting in NSYSU. By observing people around you, it is easier to know their strengths and weakness. Because of it, you can find the most suitable person you want for that position. They will not only good at a skill but also be able to fit into the company culture and practice.
